PROJECTS

Note: I write almost exclusively in German.

Fantasy
Novel

For many a year, I have been working on a fantasy novel with the working title Der Abgrund der Fantasie. It developed out of a children's book I started writing in the late 1990s. During a two-year stay in Thessaloniki (2004-2006), I considerably expanded the project, but after accepting an academic position in Canada in 2006 it all came to a grinding halt. During a sabbatical year in Tel Aviv (2013-14), I finally returned to it and have recently (April 2021) completed a manuscript of around 260,000 words. I am presently revising it and looking into publishing it. Wish me luck!

Theatre
Scripts

I have been adapting plays & writing scenes ever since I began staging theatre productions in the 1990s when I was one of the founders of CiC (Characters in Company) at Würzburg, Germany. After founding Theater DU, the German Theatre Toronto, in 2010, this kind of work gathered speed In 2012 I put together Drakul(j)a, an adaptation of Bram Stoker's famed novel; more recently I wrote Deutsch vom Fass - An Educational Journey in Nine Scenes on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the German Department at the University of Toronto in 2016. I'm presently thinking about a 4-person play with the working title The Black Book.

Children's
Books

Together with my lovely wife, Rachel Seelig, I co-authored several children's books: A Moustache for Carlo (2013), Lovely (2014), and The Chestnut's Three Wishes (2021). They were beautifully illustrated by Rachel and her father Michael Seelig and are available on Amazon both in English and in German. We have plans for more books. Our next one will most likely be entitled Hotel Cactus, but there is another one lurking in the shadows: Hangry.

From 2005 to 2008 I did editorial work for Dr. Yüksel Pazarkaya:

  • Yüksel Pazarkaya: Du Gegenden (Erlangen: Sardes 2005)

  • Yüksel Pazarkaya: 40 Jahre - leicht gesagt (Erlangen: Sardes 2007)

  • Enver Ercan: Die Zeit küsst alles im Vorübergehen (Erlangen: Sardes, 2008)

  • Guelten Akin: Das Lied vom Frausein (Erlangen: Sardes, 2008)
