Theater DU
Deutsches Theater Toronto

Theater DU developed out of a German theatre course at the University of Toronto. Since 2010, the group has staged six productions:

-
Friedrich Dürenmatt's Die Physiker (2010)
-
Erol Boran's Drakul(j)a (2012)
-
Günter Grass‘ Hochwasser (2015)
-
Erol Boran's Deutsch vom Fass (2016)
-
Georg Büchner's Woyzeck (2016) and
-
August Wilhelm Iffland's Der Komet (2019)

In 2022, the pandemic, forced us to shift gears: Instead of staging a theatre production, we filmed adapted scenes of Heinrich Hoffmann's notorious children book, Der Struwwelpeter.

Erol Boran, the founder of the group, hails from a Franconian village and founded two theatre groups in the Old World before conquering the New. Erol is a professor of German at UofT and also an actor, director and writer. He adapts all plays he stages and on occasion writes his own.
